I agree. Woke up, put on the radio half asleep, heard the news and hoped it’d been a bad dream. Unfortunately not. I’ve been close to tears and listening to him on 6 music all morning. He was my 1st ever concert when I was around 15. We’ve lost a genius and a legend (word used correctly for a change). Terribly sad.

Thanks. Now that the initial shock has worn off, there is this sudden feeling of: who do we turn to now? Who is going to keep surprising us in the ‘rock’ field? Scott Walker and Iggy are thankfully still with us – though neither can touch David for sheer versatility and vitality.

In my YouTube exploration of the new videos, I stumbled across a sensational reworking of “the man show sold the world” with Reeves Gabrels and Gail (?) on bass, filmed during a possible Later with Jools. Amazing take on his own song. Might it been part of the TOY project

Oh yes, that is a superb version, remember it well. Great Gail Ann Dorsey bassline and an amazing Reeves solo. I think it was released as part of a double A-side single around the time of the ‘Outside’ album. I will be heading to youtube now to check it out, sir…
