It was ten years to the day that I published my inaugural articles for movingtheriver, pieces on Prefab Sprout, Marcus Miller/Miles Davis, Peter Gabriel , Keith LeBlanc, Prince and Level 42.
The site was a few years in the planning but really only became a reality during an enforced period of reclusion via illness.
Anyone who sets up a project as a labour of love knows how quickly it becomes both a lifeline and passion. Over the past ten years, it’s also been great fun sharing stories and opinions with readers, writers, musicians and bloggers alike.
I’m not sure what the future holds for the site. Substack and YouTube beckon and WordPress has its issues (some of you may have mistakenly been sent a test post by the WP backroom bods recently…).
But the keyword is enjoyment. So hope to see you in ten years…

Vinyl Connection began in 2013 and has witnessed the ups and downs of the WordPress universe. I’m not entirely sure what the future of blogging is; numbers declined substantially after COVID lockdowns stopped. But as you say, these things become part of our lives, don’t they?

I always look forward to your notes, so I hope to keep being reminded of the wonders of Prefab Sprout, Danny Wilson, Love & Money et al for many years to come. And of course Gaucho, still the best album of the era

Thanks! We have very similar taste… If you like Danny W btw, have just finished the liners for a box set that comes out in February, all the studio tracks plus a complete live gig from 1989.

A new Danny Wilson collection, wow! Must look out for that. I have the original ‘Sweet’ set with a bunch of live tracks of course. And I have an 18-track Gary Clark album called ‘More Songs About Love’. Not sure about the context but it seems to have come out just after ’10 Songs’ in 1993. A lot of great songs, covers and live tracks there too.

Cool, you’re a proper fan then… It’s both of the studio albums (but not Gary’s solo album) in their original packaging, then a disc of all the B-sides and mixes, and a fourth which is the full 1989 Town & Country gig including between-song banter…
